The brief

What we were asked for

A catalogue of original artwork was already earning as digital downloads. The brief was to put the same designs on clothing without buying stock, renting space or re-uploading a single file — a second revenue line off an asset that already existed.

The challenge

What made it difficult

The constraints that shaped every decision after them.

  • The artwork lives in another system. Copying it into a shop would have created two catalogues that immediately disagree.
  • Print-on-demand mockups, sizes, colours and prices come from the fulfilment network, not from us, and they change.
  • Orders have to reach the printer without a person retyping them, or the margin goes on admin.
  • The shop had to run cheaply enough that a slow month costs nothing to survive.

What we built

How we solved it

The decisions that mattered, and why we made them.

01

One catalogue, two shops

Designs are pulled over the vectorisation platform’s own API rather than duplicated, so a design fixed once is fixed everywhere it sells.

02

Garments and mockups from the source

Product variants, sizing and preview imagery come from the fulfilment network, so the shop shows what can actually be printed rather than a hopeful catalogue.

03

Hands-off fulfilment

A paid order becomes a production order automatically; nobody packs anything and nobody retypes an address.

04

Deliberately small

FastAPI, server-rendered templates and SQLite on a persistent volume — a shop with no stock does not need a database cluster, and the running cost is close to nothing.

The outcome

Where it got to

  • A second retail channel opened on an existing catalogue with no new artwork and no inventory.
  • Every order reaches the printer without manual handling.
  • Hosting costs are a rounding error against the first sale of the month.
